The industry sells exercise the way it sells clothes — fast fashion, six-week transformations, apps that gamify the thing you actually need to do for forty years. It doesn't work for the people I train.
My roster is almost entirely older professionals and retirees — bankers, post-exit founders, surgeons, attorneys, their spouses. People who built careers at a standard they're no longer willing to let their body fall below. Long engagements. Written programming. No app, no group class, no six-week anything.
This is what strong looks like at seventy-one.
Strong at seventy-one isn't luck. It's programming — written down, year over year, built around what a body can actually do in this decade, not the last one.
Most trainers would have told her to take it easy. This is what not taking it easy looks like.
The practice is narrow on purpose.
Fourteen months, one knee, three hundred and fifteen pounds.
He came in after a partial knee replacement had told him he'd never squat heavy again. He'd been an athlete in college, and the gap between that body and the one he was living in was the part that hurt most. Not the knee.
We spent the first three months on a single question: what is this joint actually capable of? We re-ran the assessment with his surgeon's notes, re-built the hinge and squat patterns from the floor up, and programmed around load, not around ego. By month six he was deadlifting more than his son.
By month fourteen he was squatting three hundred and fifteen for clean sets of five, had lost twenty-four pounds of visceral fat his cardiologist had been asking him to lose for a decade, and was sleeping through the night for the first time since his thirties.
His surgeon asked him for his trainer's number. We took that as a compliment. He did not take a new client.

I started training in my early twenties because I wanted to get bigger and feel cooler. That's the honest version.
Fifteen years in, almost every client on my roster is over fifty-five, and the work has taught me everything I didn't know at the start. I care more now about the sixty-three-year-old who can still get on the floor with his grandkids than any physique result I ever chased for myself. The training that gets someone there is quieter, slower, and more stubborn than anything a bootcamp is ever going to sell you.
The practice runs out of a private studio in Cherry Creek. I keep the roster deliberately small — fewer clients, longer engagements. Most stay past their third year. A few are approaching their tenth.
